Our Story

Skip, and his wife Marsha, have been members of Holy Cross since 2022. They both found the congregation to be very friendly and welcoming when they first visited in 2021. Skip is a retired medical administrator who worked for 30 years at UAB. Skip and Marsha enjoy working in the Holy Cross vegetable garden and helping the Landscape Committee as needed. Skip enjoys being a Holy Cross delivery driver for Meals on Wheels and being a lector on Sunday mornings. Skip and Marsha have a son and daughter, and two beautiful granddaughters.

Anne has been a member of Holy Cross since moving to Birmingham in 1999. She has served on the Holy Cross Vestry as both Jr. and Sr. Warden as well the Treasurer on two occasions. She enjoys being a Sunday School teacher and helping with Vacation Bible School. She’s also served as a Crucifer and LEM. Anne works for Smile-A-Mile, a nonprofit serving children with cancer and their families. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son and daughter-in-law and her two precious grandchildren. Holy Cross is a group of people that love the Lord and each other, and Anne considers it an honor to serve as a Vestry member again.Catherine Brown and her husband Matt returned to Holy Cross in 2024 with three of their five children- Evie, Sadie and Ellie. The Browns are proud to call Holy Cross their church home. Catherine serves the church through the Altar Guild and is a regular lector. Catherine is a nurse practitioner and practices at UAB Medicine in the department of Neurology where she cares for patients with brain aging and cognitive concerns. In her spare time, she can be found in the woods hiking, kayaking, and camping with Troop 216G where she is the scoutmaster. She also enjoys managing Ellie's competitive soccer team. The Browns have two adult children with whom they enjoy traveling and watching college football.

Ginger Meadows and her husband David have been married 26 years. When the Meadows first visited Holy Cross, they had been searching for a place they could have their individual spiritual needs met in worship and were able to find that at Holy Cross. They have three children and five grandchildren, with another on the way! Ginger retired in January 2025 from B.L. Harbert International where she managed the benefits programs for overseas employees. Shortly after retirement, her mother became ill, and Ginger was able to spend a great deal of her time managing her mother and father’s healthcare needs until her mother’s passing in May 2025. Now, after worshipping at Holy Cross approximately nine years, she considers it a privilege to serve on the Vestry and does her best to honor our Lord in service and contribute to the welfare of Holy Cross.

Tom Mann and his wife, Karen, have been members of Holy Cross for more than 20 years. He worked in the trucking industry for close to 50 years, retiring just 3 years ago. Since retirement, he has been able to become more involved in the church. He helps with maintaining the grounds, enjoys helping in the garden, and has led men’s Bible Study for the past three years. Holy Cross means a great to the Manns.

Stefano and Shelli Mugnaini, along with their daughters, Siena and Lilli, have been attending Holy Cross since 2022. Originally from Florida, they moved to the Birmingham area for work at the Children’s hospital, where Stefano is Chaplain and Shelli an oncology nurse. Stefano now primarily works as one of the Clinical Ethicists at UAB, whilst remaining very part time at the Children’s hospital to keep a foot in the chaplain world. Stefano recently joined the Holy Cross Choir and has been drawn to liturgical worship for a long time before making it official, with the family being confirmed earlier this year. Stefano considers himself a very poor gardener and a pretty decent cook, and enjoys doing both.

Heather and her husband Tyler joined Holy Cross in 2006. Together, they are raising their three children-Aiden, Noah, and Lily-as a part of this loving, supportive church family. Heather previously served as a Vestry Member and Senior Warden, and from 2018 to 2020 she served as the Director of Children’s Ministries. Heather is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health, where she conducts research; evaluates federal, state, and local public health programs; and teaches graduate students about maternal and child health programs and policies. Heather is an active member of her community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Trussville City Schools Foundation and the South Highland Outreach. In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and gardening.
